the easy way to an eco-responsible summer

Our 15 tips for an eco-responsible summer

These tips will help reduce your ecological footprint while making the most of the summer season

With summer approaching, it's time to plan a vacation while respecting our beautiful planet. Naéco Hostels offers 15 tips for an eco-responsible summer.

1. Choose local destinations

To reduce your carbon footprint, choose destinations close to home. Travelling locally allows you to discover unsuspected treasures while avoiding the emissions associated with long plane or car journeys.

 2. Use eco-friendly transportation

Favor public transport, carpooling, cycling or walking. These soft modes of transport are not only ecological, but also beneficial for your health.

3. Stay in eco-friendly accommodations

Choose establishments committed to sustainable development, such as Naéco Hostels, which implement environmentally friendly practices.

4. Reduce your energy consumption

During your summer vacation, make sure to turn off lights, electronics, and use air conditioning in moderation. A small gesture for you, a big step for the planet.

5. Favor local and seasonal products

Eat seasonal fruits and vegetables and buy from local producers. This will support the local economy and reduce the carbon footprint of transporting food.

Audierne Market: Wednesday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the city center of Audierne

Le Pouldu Market: Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the tourist office

Erdeven Market: Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the city center of Erdeven

6. Limit plastic waste

Carry a reusable water bottle, cloth bags and reusable containers to avoid plastic waste. Choose biodegradable or compostable packaging when possible.

7. Practice waste sorting

Find out about the rules for sorting local waste and make sure you follow them. Recycling  is key to reducing the environmental impact of your waste.

8. Use eco-friendly sunscreen products

Conventional sunscreens contain substances that are harmful to marine ecosystems. Opt for natural and biodegradable sunscreen products to protect your skin without harming the environment.

 9. Respect nature

When you are in the middle of nature, stay on the marked trails, respect the fauna and flora, and do not leave any waste behind. Nature is precious, let's preserve it.

10. Focus on outdoor activities

Choose outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, or biking. These hobbies are not only environmentally friendly, but also excellent for your well-being.

14. Reduce your water consumption

Use water responsibly by taking short showers, reusing wash water to water plants, and reporting water leaks in accommodations.

12. Prefer eco-friendly hygiene products

Choose hygiene and personal care products that are natural, biodegradable and free of plastic packaging. Solid soap and shampoo bars are good alternatives.

13. Participate in local initiatives

Learn about and participate in local environmental initiatives . Whether it's for a beach clean-up or a reforestation project, every gesture counts.

14. Shop responsibly

Favor products that are ethically and sustainably made. Avoid cheap souvenirs and favor local artisans, this supports the local economy and reduces the carbon footprint.

15. Educate yourself and others

Take advantage of the summer to learn about environmental issues and share your knowledge with those around you. Raising awareness is a key step towards a sustainable future.

Adopting eco-responsible behaviour during your summer holidays is beneficial for the environment and enriching on a personal level. At Naéco Hostels, we believe that every little bit counts and that we can all contribute to preserving our planet. Have a green and responsible summer!
