A running sport that involves collecting garbage along the way. Clever!

Why this word?

First and foremost, it's important to remember that the very idea of waste collection running (or walking) is nothing new, and many citizens have been working for decades to save the planet. But the concept of plogging in itself, with the ensuing media coverage and mobilization, is relatively recent. The trend originated in Sweden. To help preserve the planet, citizens have launched the plogging, a neologism derived from the contraction of the words plocka upp («to pick up», in Swedish) and «jog». So, as they run, ploggers pick up any garbage they come across.

What's in it for you?

It's real! The motto of plogging, Having a healthy body in a healthy environment« speaks for itself. Visit plogging involves every muscle in the body. You have to bend down, get up and carry the collected garbage all at the same time, so you can work your abs, glutes and biceps! The change of pace requires more physical effort than an unrestricted running circuit. The practice also has a preventive value: the outside view raises awareness and sensitizes passers-by to the problem of pollution and plastic waste.

Plogging at Naéco Hostels

In 2016, 310 million tonnes of plastic waste were generated, a third of which evaporated into thin air. France alone produced 4.5 million tonnes of this waste in the same year. It has therefore become a major challenge for the country to reduce, of recycle but also reuse.
